Glucose

Glucose can be measured in both Clinical Research and Industrial, Commercial & Biotechnology applications

Clinical & Research

Glucose can be measured in these areas:

  • Diabetes monitoring
  • Diabetes clamp studies
  • Clinical pathology

Industry & Biotechnology

Glucose can be measured in these areas:

  • Biotechnology and pharmaceutical analysis
  • Food and beverage analysis

Clinical & Research

Analox offer two appraches to clinical glucose measurement.  The first is a very fast enzymatic assay for glucose in plasma, serum or whole blood via Analox collection systems.

The second using the GM9D (Glucose Direct) Analyser eliminates the need for collection systems, as all the additives have been added to the reagent buffer so that unmodified whole blood can be injected directly.

Principle

In the presence of molecular oxygen, ß-D-glucose is oxidised by the enzyme glucose oxidase (GOD) to gluconic acid and hydrogen peroxide,

Under the condtions of the assay, the rate of oxygen consumption is directly proportional to glucose concentration.

Technical Summary

Samples Plasma, serum, whole-blood collected in Analox tubes or capillaries, C.S.F., urine (suitably diluted) and other aqueous media.
Sample Volume 10 µl (variable 3.5 - 25 µl)
Analysis Time 20 seconds
Linearity

0- 30 mmol/L (10 µl sample); 0 - 540 mg/dl (10 µl sample)

0- 50 mmol/L (5 µl sample); 0- 900 mg/dl (5 µl sample)

Precision Within run: C.V. of 1.0% @ 5 mmol/L (Plasma) C.V. of 1.4% @ 10 mmol/L (Plasma) C.V. of 0.85% @ 12 mmol/L (Whole Blood)
Reagent Stability

Shelf-life unopened: 18 months stored at 0 - 5°C

Notes:

Glucose standards at 2.5, 5.0, 8.0 and 25.0 mmol/L (30 ml) are available and ordered as required.

Other values at 30.0 and 50.0 mmol/L can be supplied to special order.

Industry & Biotechnology

A very fast enzymatic assay for ß-D-glucose (dextrose) in beverages, biotechnology and biopharmaceutical applications

Samples Any suitable homogenous biological fluid or aqueous extract. Gross particulates should be removed by course filtration or centrifugation. However, turbidity or opacity does not cause interference
Sample Volume 10 µl (25 µl for GM10)
Analysis Time 20 seconds
Analytical Range 0.05 - 20 %W/V (for GM8, GL6); 0.20 - 40 %W/V (for GM10)
Analytical Cycle Approx. 60 seconds
Precision C.V. of 1.0% at ca. 0.1% W/V
Reagent Stability

Shelf-life unopened: 18 months stored at 0 - 5°C.

Notes:

Long-life glucose standards (with preservative) at 1.0, 2.0, 5.0, 8.0 and 20.0 %W/V (30 ml) are available and ordered as required. Other values can be supplied to special order.
